The 63rd Grammy awards spring into action on Sunday night with revised arrangement's for the pandemic. Harry Styles, up for three nominations himself, will be opening the star studied event with a live performance. Other artists up for multiple nominations include Beyoncé with nine nominations while Taylor Swift and Dua Lipa have six nominations each. The event traditionally regarded as the biggest night in music, will be without a live audience in the Los Angeles Convention Center. In order to maintain social distancing performers will be split into five stages. Awards will be handed over by working staff in the arena including security guards and cleaners.
Taylor Swift is bookies favourite to land the best album award with her lockdown offering "Folklore". The best rock performance category is female dominated this year with American Fiona Apple tipped for success. While K-Pop group BTS have their first nomination but are not favourites in the category for best group performance.
It wouldn't be the Grammys without some controversy and even before anyone has stepped on the red carpet, 2021 is no different. There's discontent from many artists that voting practises should be updated and made more transparent. Major musicians that dominated the charts throughout the year where overlooked. One to mention was The Weeknd who has expressed that he will boycott future events due to "The secret committees" that decide on awards. This is not a new criticism of the awards with some noticeable references to it in recent years.
